About Spanish Antigua

Our story, since 1978.

It started with two people, not a franchise. Today, Spanish Antigua continues a family teaching tradition in the center of Antigua Guatemala.

A family teaching tradition

One renewed name, the same educational history.

In 1978, Elisa Pellecer and Abel Aquino opened a small Spanish school in Antigua Guatemala with a simple idea: teach real Spanish, one student at a time, to people arriving from all over the world.

Over the years, that vision grew into a long educational tradition connected to Centro America Spanish School, Intercontinental Spanish School, and Alameda Spanish School. Many students who studied Spanish in Antigua over the past decades learned within this same tradition, even when the school name was different.

Abel Aquino, one of the original founders, remains an active part of the school today. Alongside the next generation of the family and experienced teachers, Spanish Antigua continues to welcome students personally and create programs around who they are and why they are learning.

Our teaching philosophy

Practical, personal, and connected to real life.

A traveler, a doctor, a volunteer, a business professional, a retiree, a university student, and a family do not need the exact same class, so we do not teach them as if they do.

From the beginning, your teacher adapts the class to your current level, pace, interests, profession, learning style, and goals. Lessons can combine conversation, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, listening comprehension, reading, writing, practical communication, and cultural understanding.

Antigua itself is part of the learning experience. Markets, cafés, museums, local neighborhoods, host families, cultural activities, and everyday conversations give students opportunities to use Spanish naturally.
